Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and Sitescrow (“Sitescrow”, “we”, “us”), which runs sitescrow.com. They apply whenever you use the site, with or without an account. By creating an account you confirm that you have read them and accept them; if you do not, please do not use Sitescrow. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your information and is part of the same agreement.

The key points
  • Sitescrow introduces people who buy and sell online businesses. We are not part of your deal, and we never hold or move your money.
  • Listing is free and we take no commission.
  • You may only list what you own. Every listing has to prove it before it goes public.
  • Keep your conversation on Sitescrow. We can only see, record and act on what happens here, not on WhatsApp, Instagram or anywhere else.
  • Scams get accounts put on hold, and we may give the evidence to the police.
  • Whatever we decide about your account, you can ask us to look at it again.

1. What Sitescrow is, and is not

Sitescrow is a marketplace. You can list an online business for sale (a website, an app, a game, a channel, a newsletter, an account or a domain), browse what others list, message each other, make and accept offers, keep a record of a deal and its handover, and use our free tools.

Sitescrow is not: a party to any sale; a broker, agent or representative of either side; an escrow agent, bank or payment service; or a lawyer, accountant or financial adviser. We do not hold, receive or transfer money for anyone, and we do not guarantee any listing, any person or the outcome of any deal.

2. What you can count on from us

  • Listing is free and there is no commission. If that ever changes, it is announced here first and never applies to a deal already under way.
  • We never hold your money, so we can never lose it or keep it.
  • We never sell your information and never show you advertising.
  • Every report is read, and when your conversation shows a scam we act on that account at once.
  • If we act on your account or your listing, we tell you why, and we look at it again if you ask.
  • You can leave whenever you like and take a copy of your information with you.

3. Who can use Sitescrow

You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, or under the age at which you can sign a contract where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to your using Sitescrow, and they must agree to any sale or purchase and take part in it with you, including the payment. If you use Sitescrow for a company, you confirm that you are allowed to act for it, and these terms bind the company too.

You may not use Sitescrow if we have closed an account of yours before, or if the law forbids you from using it or from dealing with the people on it.

4. Your account

  • Give true details (your real name, an email you read, your phone number, your country and your date of birth) and keep them up to date.
  • One account per person. Do not share it, sell it, or open another to get around a hold or a closure.
  • Your username must not pretend to be another person, a brand, or Sitescrow. We may change or remove one that does.
  • Keep your password to yourself and do not use it anywhere else. Tell us straight away if you think someone else has got in.
  • You are responsible for what is done through your account, unless it happened because of a failure on our side.
  • If you sign in with Google, Google’s own terms apply to that part too.

5. Listing a business

You may only list something you own, or are allowed to sell, together with everything a buyer needs to take it over.

Before a listing goes public you must prove you own it, by placing a code we give you on the site, in its domain’s records, or in the channel or app description. The address of a well-known company is held until ownership is proven on that domain itself and Sitescrow has looked at it.

Everything you say about it must be true and not misleading: revenue, costs, profit, visitors, where they come from, its age and what is included. Tell buyers about anything they would want to know. A penalty from a search engine, a ban or warning from a platform, a dispute, a copyright claim. Screenshots you send us must be unedited.

Every listing is reviewed, automatically and where needed by us. We may refuse, hold or remove a listing that breaks these terms or that we reasonably believe is misleading, and we will tell you why. The price and the terms of the sale are yours to set.

6. What may not be listed

  • Anything stolen, hacked, or taken without the owner’s permission, or anything you do not control.
  • Anything built on someone else’s content, brand or software without the right to use it.
  • Anything whose business is illegal where you or the buyer are, including fraud, counterfeit goods, malware, phishing and hacking tools.
  • A business with invented or inflated numbers.
  • An account on a platform whose rules forbid selling it. Some social networks do; checking the platform’s rules is for the buyer and the seller, not for us.

7. Buying

Do your own checks before you pay. Verify the figures, ask for read access to the analytics and the payout accounts, confirm who controls the domain and the accounts, and consider professional advice for a large purchase.

Our marks and checks tell you what we found at the time we looked. They are information, not a guarantee.

Making or accepting an offer records the price you agreed on Sitescrow. Whether and how that binds you is between you and the other side, under the law that applies to you.

8. Payment and handover

No money passes through Sitescrow. You and the other side agree how to pay and how to hand over, and do it between you.

Use a way of paying that protects you, such as a licensed escrow service. Never pay someone you do not know in cryptocurrency, gift cards or by money transfer services that cannot be reversed, and never give anyone a password, a recovery phrase or a code.

We cannot recover a payment, reverse a transfer, or make anyone hand anything over.

The written terms page for a deal is a record of what the two of you agreed, in your own words and figures. It is not a contract drafted by us. You are free to have a lawyer look at it.

9. Keep the conversation on Sitescrow

We can only protect what happens on Sitescrow. Conversations, payments and promises made on WhatsApp, Instagram, Telegram, by email, by phone or anywhere else are outside our sight: we cannot see them, we have no record of them, our review cannot read them when you report someone, and we cannot act on them.

Being moved off the site is how most scams in this market begin. If someone insists on moving the conversation, be careful, and report them.

Contact details are shared once both sides are in a deal, so that the deal can be finished. Use them for that.

10. How everyone here must behave

You must not:

  • lie about who you are, pretend to be someone else, or use another person’s account;
  • scam anyone, ask for passwords, codes or card details, or demand payment that cannot be reversed before anything is handed over;
  • send spam or advertising, or messages nobody asked for in bulk;
  • harass, threaten, insult or discriminate against anyone, or post hateful or sexual content;
  • share someone else’s personal details without their permission;
  • probe Sitescrow for weaknesses without our written permission, overload it, copy listings in bulk with automated tools, or get around a limit or a block;
  • file a false report to harm someone, such as a competitor;
  • use Sitescrow for anything illegal.

11. Reports, reviews and account holds

Anyone can report a listing or a person. When you are reported, Sitescrow reads the messages between you and the person who reported you, in your conversations and in any deal you share, to see what happened.

If those messages ask for money in a way that cannot be reversed, for a password or a code, or for payment before anything is handed over, your account may be put on hold straight away: you cannot sign in and your listings are hidden while it is reviewed.

What we do is in proportion to what happened: a warning, removing a listing or a message, a hold, or closing the account. Serious fraud can end an account at once.

We tell you why, unless telling you would help a fraud or the law does not allow it. If you think we got it wrong, tell us from your Sitescrow messages, or through the contact page if you cannot sign in, and we will look at it again ourselves, not leave it to the automatic review.

Where it is needed to stop a fraud, or where the law requires it, we may share what we hold about an account (including those messages) with the police or other authorities. A report made in bad faith can be acted on against the person who made it.

12. What our marks mean

Owner verified: the code we gave the seller was found on the site, in its domain records, or in its description, on the date shown. Numbers checked: Sitescrow compared the seller’s screenshots with the listing. Counted visitors: visits measured by our own counter on the site. The verified mark is granted by Sitescrow after these checks.

Each mark is true at the time of the check, is not a guarantee about the business, and can be removed if it stops being true.

13. Our free tools

The security check reads only what any visitor can see: a site’s certificate, the headers it sends and its public records. It is not a security audit, and it can be wrong. Use it on sites you own or are considering buying, never as a step towards attacking one.

The valuation is a rough estimate based on what similar businesses usually sell for. It is not an appraisal or financial advice.

14. Your content

You keep ownership of what you post. You give us permission to host, show, copy and format it (and the public picture of your site that we fetch) to run and promote Sitescrow, for as long as it is listed here. Removing a listing ends that permission, apart from copies in backups or in messages people have already received.

You confirm you have the right to post what you post. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely.

15. Our name and our site

The Sitescrow name, logo, design and software are ours. Do not copy the site, or its listings in bulk, or use our name in a way that suggests we are connected with you.

16. Other services

Some parts of Sitescrow rely on others under their own terms: signing in with Google, the delivery of our emails, and the companies that host and protect the site. The sites that listings point to belong to their owners. We are not responsible for any of them.

17. Fees

Sitescrow is free. Listing costs nothing and we take no commission on any sale. If that ever changes it will be announced here first, and it will never apply to a deal already under way.

18. Changes to the service

We may change, pause or stop any part of Sitescrow, and it may sometimes be unavailable. We try to keep it running, but we cannot promise that it always will.

19. How far our responsibility goes

We are responsible for running Sitescrow with care, for keeping your information as the Privacy Policy describes, and for doing what these terms say we will do.

We work to keep the site accurate, safe and online, but no website can promise to be free of every error or outage, and we cannot promise that every member is honest. So beyond what these terms say, we do not give other guarantees, apart from the rights the law gives you anyway, which nothing here takes away.

Because Sitescrow is free and never touches the money in a deal, we are not the guarantor of deals between members: if a buyer or a seller lets you down, the claim is against them, and we will help with what we have: the record of your conversation here and action against their account.

If something we did goes wrong for you, our liability is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the twelve months before, or US$200. This limit does not apply to our own fraud or deliberate wrongdoing, to serious negligence on our part, or to anything else the law does not allow to be limited.

20. If your actions bring a claim against us

If you break these terms or the law (for example by listing a business that is not yours, or by deceiving a buyer) and someone takes action against Sitescrow because of it, you are responsible for the reasonable costs your actions caused, including legal costs. We will tell you promptly if that happens and give you the chance to respond. The same applies the other way: we are responsible for what we do.

21. Leaving, and when we close an account

You can leave whenever you like: ask us and we delete your account. You can ask for a copy of your information first.

We only put an account on hold or close it for a reason set out in these terms. When we do, we tell you the reason and how to ask us to look at it again. Except where there is a scam, a risk to someone’s safety, or a legal reason not to, we warn you first and give you time to put things right.

When an account ends, its listings come down. Some records are kept for the reasons and the time explained in the Privacy Policy, for example a message the other side of a deal still needs, or a report.

22. When a deal between members goes wrong

We are not a court and we do not decide who is right in a disagreement between a buyer and a seller. But we do not leave you alone with it: you can report the other side, our review reads your conversation here at once, an account that shows a scam is put on hold, and we can give you both (or the police or a court) a copy of the conversation you had on Sitescrow.

23. When these terms change

As Sitescrow grows, these terms will change. The new version is published here with its date. When a change matters, we tell you before it applies and ask you to accept it the next time you use the parts of the site that need an account. If you do not agree with a change, you can close your account before it applies.

24. The fine print

If one part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not insist on a term straight away, we have not given it up. If Sitescrow becomes a registered company or is taken over, this agreement moves with it and your rights under it stay the same. If these terms are published in another language and the two differ, the English version is the one that applies.

25. Contact

Questions about these terms: support@sitescrow.com, or the contact page.
